Gators for Higher Education – June 2012 Update 

As we turn our focus to the 2013 legislative session, we wanted to share some key information about the University of Florida. Your voice has made a difference! We are counting on your support and involvement again this year.

Higher Education Update

In the 2013 legislative session, Higher Education will continue to be in the spotlight. There have been several committees formed to focus on the role of higher education in our state. Of note are the two listed below.

Florida Governor Rick Scott created the Blue Ribbon Task Force on State Higher Education to evaluate the state’s university system and suggest ideas for reform. Learn more here.

The Florida Board of Governors created the Commission on Florida Higher Education Access and Degree Attainment. Learn more here. Go to the committee website for agenda, meetings dates and more information.

Take Action!

The Gator Nation is everywhere! The summer is a great time communicate with your state representative at his or her home-district office. Plan to write your local delegate and ask for their support in funding higher education. You can find your legislator through the G4HE website. Check out the Advocacy tools for tips.

Gators for Higher Education is a project of UF Government Relations in partnership with the UFAlumni Association. GfHE are an organized group of University of Florida alumni, faculty, students, staff and friends who want to help communicate the University’s goals to Florida’s elected officials. Gator Young Alumni

Alumni who are 35 and younger are our Gator Young Alumni. GCOM is here to strengthen the Gator Young Alumni connection to the Gator Nation and dedicate programs that would be of interest to young alumni, such as community service projects, career networking, travel opportunities and social activities.

Gator Volunteers

Show your Orange and Blue spirit by becoming a Gator Volunteer.  GCOM is solely run on Gator Volunteers and we are asking for you to get involved.
